Blackburn struggle to agree Leeds United Liam Cooper deal, may try to sign someone else

Liam Cooper may be forced to look elsewhere for his next move after Leeds United with Blackburn Rovers struggling to agree a deal, according to the Sun on Sunday.

On page 57 of their print edition [21 July], it was reported that Cooper’s camp are hesitant over a switch to Ewood Park due to Rovers’ willingness to offer just a one-year deal.

The 32-year-old has come to the end of his contract at Elland Road and currently sees his future up in the air, with Blackburn reportedly now turning their attention to veteran Danny Batth, who has left Norwich City.

Leeds legend Cooper unsure of next move

As it stands, the future of Cooper is uncertain as his contract at Leeds United expires.

The Scotsman will not be short of offers, but the difference between a contract on the table elsewhere and a reasonable and concrete offer for the future can be stark.

Talks have taken place to keep Cooper in Daniel Farke’s squad which would be of benefit to the club’s dressing room, but the door is certainly left open for the centre-back to find a new chapter in his career after a decade in West Yorkshire.

Cooper’s position is one of several where Leeds remain light, despite the permanent signing of Joe Rodon at the end of last month when Archie Gray was sold to Tottenham Hotspur.

If that situation rolls on too close to the season’s kick-off, the Whites may be prompted to reassess and improve their offer to Cooper for at least another year.
