Blackburn seek Indian government approval as they ready big cash bid for Leeds United defender Charlie Cresswell
Blackburn Rovers could be set to make a big-money bid for Leeds United defender Charlie Cresswell after their owners have asked permission from the Indian government to fund the club, according to Alan Nixon.
The Sun journalist shared via his Patreon on 21 January that, due to an ongoing row over taxes, the Venky’s (who own Rovers) have to apply for permission to transfer money into the club.
This has come following a report from Nixon [Patreon] on 14 January that Blackburn are prepared to take their interest in Cresswell further, with a big cash bid lined up.
Leeds reportedly value Cresswell at just £4million, but Nixon went on to claim Blackburn could offer a lower price with add-ons in the deal, hinting that they may bid just half of his price tag and hope to get the deal done.
With Blackburn now looking to raise extra funds with the permission of the Indian government, it may signify a step up in their attempts to meet Leeds’ valuation for their academy product.
Cresswell has made just four Championship appearances under Daniel Farke this season, with only one of those coming from the start, as he has often been completely missing from matchday squads as a result of the competition in his position.

This has increased speculation about his future, making it the most likely option that the defender would look to leave Elland Road in the January transfer window, despite agreeing to a new contract in the summer.
With Blackburn hopeful of making a late push for the playoff places, they could prove to be direct promotion rivals to Leeds, which may make the deal harder to do as Leeds will be reluctant to strengthen a direct rival.
However, if they stick to their price tag over Cresswell, they may not see him leave after all, so either they receive the money they want for improving a potential rival team, or they don’t and they can hold on until the summer to get a deal done.
