Blackburn Rovers may bid just 50% of Leeds United asking price for Charlie Cresswell in January

Blackburn Rovers are ready to take their interest in Leeds United defender Charlie Cresswell to the next level, but may only be prepared to pay half of his asking price, according to Alan Nixon.

Following on from his Patreon report [14 January] that both Blackburn and Millwall are interested in signing the defender, Nixon went on to claim that Rovers may only bid half of the £4million valuation.

Asked in the comments of the post whether or not Blackburn would be likely to pay the full valuation, Nixon explained that they could bid just £2million and hope they could get the deal done.

Leeds should hold out for their price tag

The report from Nixon claimed that, while Leeds will ask for £4million if they are to allow Cresswell to leave on a permanent January transfer move, they may be willing to drop to a lower fee with add-ons involved in a deal.

That would likely enable Blackburn to get the deal over the line without having to spend more money than they had budgeted for in the January window, while also adding a much-needed improvement to their defensive line after their 4-1 defeat to West Brom.

However, with both interested clubs Millwall and Blackburn hopeful of making a late push for the playoff places, they could prove to be direct promotion rivals to Leeds – and clubs they should avoid strengthening unless the deal is right for them.

If they stick to their price tag over Cresswell, they may not see him leave after all, so either they receive the money they want for improving a potential rival team, or they don’t and they can hold on until the summer to get a deal done.
