Bielsa yet to be consulted as Leeds chief eyes swoop to sign free agent goal machine
Leeds United chairman Andrea Radrizzani has confirmed that he would consider a move to sign free agent striker Edinson Cavani.
The 33-year-old goal machine was released by Paris Saint-Germain at the end of last month and is now on the hunt for a new club.
And it seems that Leeds could be that club based on Radrizzani’s recent comments, although the Whites chief is yet to consult manager Marcelo Bielsa.
“In addition to his quality, Cavani could contribute with his physicality and adapt here, but I’ve never talked about him with the coach,” Radrizzani told Sky Sports Italy, as quoted by the Daily Mail.
“Having said that, we’ve certainly thought about him and we’ll see, given he’s still available on a free transfer.”
Cavani has guaranteed one thing throughout his illustrious career – goals.
In total, he has scored 341 goals in 556 club appearances across all competitions while also netting 50 times in 116 appearances for the Uruguay national team.
If there’s a marquee signing that Leeds want to make this summer then Cavani would be the one – even if it would be a free transfer.
Although the former PSG striker is available for free, there’s no doubt that his wage demands will be massive and with the economical climate that football finds itself in, it could be tough for Leeds to strike an agreement.
Radrizzani seems keen though, but he needs to discuss a move with Bielsa first because if Bielsa does not see him fitting in with his tactics then it’s a no-go.
It wouldn’t shock us at all if Bielsa turns around to Radrizzani and says: “Why do I need Cavani when I have Patrick Bamford?”
