Bielsa ready to trigger £32.5m release clause for 31-cap int’l, agent relationship key – report

Leeds United are ready to meet the £32.5m release clause for Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nández, according to radio broadcaster Luis Fregossi.

24-year-old Nández is a Uruguay international with 31 caps and he signed for the Serie A side last summer for £16m.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Fregossi said, “Bielsa is ready to trigger the Uruguayan’s release clause, which is €36m [£32.5m]. The close relationship between the manager and the player’s agent will be key to the negotiation.”

Nández? Yes please

Nández is a fantastic player who’s already a well established and respected international in his position at the age of 24.

He is a midfielder who can play in the holding role of Kalvin Phillips, or in the more advanced roles of Adam Forshaw or Matesuz Klich.

It might seem like a lot of money to spend, especially in today’s market, but Nández is world-class and Leeds have struggled in those positions, not only when Phillips is out, but with the long-term injury to Forshaw.

Phillips missed the last few games of the season and we haven’t heard yet when he’s expected to be fully fit.

Nández has a lot of Bielsa qualities about him and he’s a player who’s caught the eye of teams like Chelsea and Arsenal.

Corriere dello Sport claim Nández’s agent has been talking with the Premier League heavyweights but the Bielsa connection could help swing the player towards Leeds.

Nández played for Boca Juniors for two years and Fregossi talks about the close relationship between Bielsa and Oscar Bentancourt.
