Bielsa and Benitez spotted talking to each other after Leeds v Everton
Marcelo Bielsa was spotted talking to Rafa Benitez pitchside at Elland Road after Leeds United drew 2-2 with Everton on Saturday.
Raphinha’s brilliant second-half goal earned the Whites their first point of the season after they had to come from behind twice against the Toffees.
An image after the game showed Bielsa with his arm around Benitez as they made their way from the pitch.
And Benitez has explained what they were saying to one another.
“We talked about the game and the goal situations we had, and how hard the teams are working,” said Benitez, as quoted by Argentinean journalist Claudio Mauri via his personal Twitter account.
Two greats
Leeds fans might not be completely thrilled with the point against Everton but this is a team who started well last season and finished just behind us in the table.
It was also against a team that has hired a very good manager in Benitez.
He knows the Premier League inside out from spells at Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle prior to taking the job at Goodison Park earlier in the summer.
And like Bielsa, Benitez knows how to get a tune out of players without having to oversee a major overhaul of his squad.
Demarai Gray is the only player who Everton have paid for this season and he has a really good game against us.
Fortunately, Raphinha was that level higher than everyone and the Brazilian’s magical goal was worthy of being a match-winner.
Unfortunately, it didn’t get us three points but that one point is good enough ahead of playing Burnley next week.
In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay has said whether Rodrigo will leave Elland Road this summer.
