Ben Jacobs makes Ollie Watkins 'heartbeat' claim as Leeds United lurk

Leeds United are in the market for a striker and they could be set to look within the Premier League for their next summer target.

The Whites have seen their main number nine Patrick Bamford suffer yet another injury setback and have been forced to move Rodrigo forward to the striker role after impressing in the attacking midfielder hole.

CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs has suggested that Victor Orta would take Aston Villa ae Ollie Watkins at Elland Road and that a move could well happen.

“With Ollie Watkins, I think Leeds would take him in a heartbeat, and it all just depends on whether the player is going to go to Villa and say that he wants out,” Jacobs told GiveMeSport.

“From the Villa point of view, they deny any friction or tension, and they say, ‘not for sale’.”

Watkins may not possess the most incredible goal-scoring record throughout his career but what he does offer in persistent pressing and causing a true nuisance to the opposition defenders.

Leeds United are now embodying the style of play that the Villans striker wants to play and with Bamford now out of action yet again, Orta could make far worse purchases than the 26-year-old.

And it’s not like he hardly ever scores or assists either having already found the net once with two assists to his name in two starts in the Premier League this season.

Even if Joe Gelhardt and Sam Greenwood are considered the future of the club, Jesse Marsch has to put a team out that can win games right now and Watkins would definitely help with that.

Now is not the time to rest on their laurels though and if more new signings can be made, like this one, there then can not be any hesitation in making it happen.
