'Beast', 'Could watch him pass a football all day' - Many Leeds fans blown away by transfer news

Leeds United fans are blown away by a report which claims that the club is looking to sign AZ Alkmaar midfielder Teun Koopmeiners.

According to the Telegraph, the Whites have set their sights on Koopmeiners, 22, to provide extra competition to Marcelo Bielsa’s midfield options amid an injury to Pablo Hernandez.

Leeds want to strengthen their midfield but have so far been frustrated in their attempts to sign Udinese’s Rodrigo De Paul while Atalanta’s Ruslan Malinovskyi has also been considered.

Koopmeiners is a new name to emerge on Victor Orta’s radar and fans on Twiter have plenty to say about the link to the AZ Alkmaar captain.

Koopmeiners scored 16 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions last season as AZ finished the abandoned 2019/20 Eredivisie campaign level on points with Ajax at the top of the league.

The Netherlands Under-21 international played in the centre of AZ’s midfield, as a defensive midfielder and even as a centre-back.

Although he’s more recently been deployed as a left-sided centre-back by AZ manager Arne Slot, Bielsa and Orta clearly view the 22-year-old as a midfielder.

And Leeds fans are excited by the prospect of Koopmeiners heading to Elland Road due to his impressive ability to pass the ball and seemingly big potential.

Here is a selection of their tweets:

Stats by WyScout show that Koopmeiners completed 88.7 per cent of his passes in the Eredivisie last season while also completing 70.2 per cent into the opposition third and 52.1 per cent into the penalty area.

Koopmeiners seems like the talented type of player who Bielsa will be able to mould into whatever type of midfielder he wants.

And we cannot wait to see that happen if a deal can be clinched for the AZ captain.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have ended their interest in this 26-year-old Serie A player.
