BBC journalist: Leeds new addition set for role in first-team

Elia Caprile is only 18-years-old but the newest addition at Leeds United is set to play a role in the first-team, according to BBC Radio Leeds journalist Adam Pope.

Leeds confirmed on Tuesday that the young goalkeeper had been snapped up on a permanent deal from Chievo with him agreeing to sign a three-and-a-half-year deal at Elland Road.

Caprile was pictured alongside Victor Orta on Leeds’ official website but there was no information on whether the Italy Under-18 international was signed as a first-team addition or one for the Under-23s.

Although it would be logical to assume that Orta has signed Caprile with the view to him joining up with Carlos Corberan’s Under-23s, it seems as though that is not entirely the case.

Although the Italian shot-stopper will feature for the youngsters, BBC Radio Leeds broadcaster Pope has reported via his personal Twitter account that he is also set for a role in Marcelo Bielsa’s senior squad.

Leeds have several young goalkeepers at the club but it seems as though Caprile has already jumped above Kamil Miazek and Will Huffer in the pecking order.

It is unlikely that he will budge Illan Meslier out of the first-team squad on matchdays but he could be at Elland Road as a third-choice goalkeeper from now on.

That is an encouraging sign about Leeds’ latest young addition.

In other Leeds United news, this Leeds striker could have his loan deal terminated early so he can return to Yorkshire.
