Barry Douglas open to Blackburn switch as he heads for Leeds United exit
Barry Douglas is set to leave Leeds United when his contract expires at the end of next month but could find himself a permanent home at Blackburn, according to the Lancashire Telegraph.
The newspaper reports on their website that Douglas, 31, is open to joining Rovers on a permanent basis after spending the season on loan with them.
It is understood he’s willing to listen to any offer the Lancashire club offers and manager Tony Mowbray has hinted at a move this summer.
All the best, Barry
On Friday, Douglas confirmed he would be leaving Leeds United when his contract expires on June 30.
The former Wolves left-back posted a heartfelt message to the fans of the Yorkshire club on Twitter.
It’s really no surprise that Douglas is leaving when his contract expires, especially as he was seldom used by Marcelo Bielsa in the Championship last season.
After winning promotion to the Premier League, the Scottish full-back was never going to get any game-time so letting him leave was the best course of action.
At Blackburn, Douglas made 31 appearances in all competitions during his loan spell.
He didn’t exactly light up the Championship at Ewood Park but he seems to have done enough to suggest he’d be a decent addition for Mowbray in the summer on a free transfer.
As per the Lancashire Telegraph, funds are tight at Blackburn going into the summer despite them being owned by billionaire company Venkys, so someone who’s available on a free and keen to play is a solid option.
In other Leeds United news, this big-money Whites ace is expected to return to the Championship this summer too.
