Barcelona in advanced talks to sign Raphinha from Leeds United - Fabrizio Romano
Barcelona are in “advanced talks” with Raphinha’s agent Deco as they aim to sign the Leeds United winger, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Writing via his personal Twitter account on Friday (25 March), the Guardian journalist reported that while concrete talks are being held with Deco, “it will take some time” before official negotiations start with Leeds.
Speaking on the latest episode of The Phil Hay Show podcast, also on Friday, The Athletic journalist Phil Hay reported that there’s no release clause in Raphinha’s current contract at Elland Road.
Over to Leeds
If Barcelona are going to sign Raphinha from Leeds United then they’re going to have to stump up a very lucrative offer.
Raphinha is Leeds’ star man, their top goalscorer and their talisman.
Losing him would cause the team to suffer massively in terms of quality so it’s only fair the club is compensated fairly.
Barcelona’s financial woes are widely documented with the Catalan giants in very serious debut.
They’ve lost Lionel Messi, have been knocked out of the Champions League group stages and have lost their status as a serious title contender in Spain within the last year.
We cannot blame them at all for wanting Raphinha but when a club like that comes knocking, it’s only fair for Leeds to slap a massive price tag on his head.
However, as mentioned, Barca’s accounts are unhealthy and that could mean they’re priced out of a move, which is likely to unsettle Raphinha.
We hope that’s not the case but this is the makings of a real transfer saga at Elland Road.
In other Leeds United news, Victor Orta has hinted how many senior signings will be made by the Whites in the summer.
