It’s hard to go a month without seeing Leeds United and Rodrigo De Paul crop up together in a transfer story.
We can understand why that’s the case. Last summer, Leeds were strongly linked with the 26-year-old Udinese midfielder, who also declared on Twitter that he wants to join the Yorkshire club.
Udinese stuck to their high asking price though and in the end, Leeds failed to sign the impressive Argentina international.
However, Tutto Atalanta has now reported that Leeds are above everyone else in the race to sign De Paul in the summer.
The Athletic’s James Horncastle was asked about this latest transfer update and he suggested that an upcoming interview with De Paul could be of interest for Leeds United supporters.
Writing on Twitter, The Athletic’s Serie A correspondent said: “We have an interview with De Paul already in the can… It’ll be out soon so watch this space.”

No-brainer for De Paul
Leeds need to strengthen their central midfield options in the summer because at times this season, Marcelo Bielsa’s existing players have not been good enough in that area of the pitch.
Mateusz Klich has started to show signs he’s struggling at this level while Rodrigo has not really taken off since his club-record arrival from Valencia last summer.
Rodrigo, in fairness to him, was surely seen as a striker when he was signed but Patrick Bamford’s performances have seen the Spain international drop back into a more central role – a role which De Paul should slot into seamlessly.
The former Racing Club midfielder has made 29 appearances in all competitions for Udinese this season, scoring six goals and supplying seven assists in the process.
No player has won more WhoScored man of the match awards in Serie A this season than De Paul , while stats by WhoScored show he ranks third in the Italian top-flight for key passes per game [2.4] and first for dribbles [3.4].
De Paul is a complete attacking midfielder who can run with the ball and pass it.
Leeds would be a far better team with him in their side so signing him in the summer should be top of Victor Orta’s list of priorities.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are eyeing another player in Serie A but this one is a defender who defied the odds on international duty.
