Aston Villa mocked by non-league club as Leeds United transfer story emerges

Ossett United have mocked Aston Villa over their reported admiration of Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

The Athletic reported today (Wednesday) that Villa are strong admirers of the 26-year-old England international but as long as Leeds stay a Premier League club, a deal for him is a “non-starter”.

After the story was shared on the Birmingham Mail’s Villa-specific Twitter account on Tuesday, West Yorkshire’s Ossett United took to social media to jokingly declare they are also admirers of Phillips.

“We can confirm that we at Ossett United also admire Kalvin Phillips,” said the tweet by the Northern Premier League Division One East club.

Absolutely no chance

Villa may be admirers of Phillips, Ossett United may be admirers of Phillips and the Brazil international team may be admirers too. It doesn’t mean they ever have a chance of him playing for them.

Phillips is way too good for a team like Aston Villa, who the midfielder rejected the chance to join while we were still in the Championship.

Phillips is a boyhood Leeds fan who absolutely loves the club – and he’s also an absolutely fantastic player.

He could play for most teams in the Premier League and a sideways step to a club like Aston Villa is surely not ever going to be considered by the 26-year-old ace.

Phillips is good enough to play for a club like Manchester United, who really need to sort out their central and deep-lying midfield options.

However, the rivalry between Leeds and Man United kind of writes that move off so we could see Phillips moving onto a club like Liverpool, Arsenal or Tottenham should he opt to move away from Elland Road at some point in the future.

In other Leeds United news, Kaveh Solhekol has revealed the clause in the contract of an “incredible” player wanted by the Whites.
