Arsenal bid for Leeds United star Raphinha was just £30m up front plus £10m in add-ons

Arsenal’s bid for Raphinha was rejected by Leeds United this week because only £30million was offered up front for the Brazilian, according to Mail Plus.

The newspaper reported on their website on Saturday (25 June) that the Gunners’ offer for the 25-year-old was turned down by Leeds as it came nowhere near their £65million valuation.

It is understood that Arsenal offered an initial fee of £30million plus an extra £10million in add-ons.

Mail Plus claims Arsenal feel that Raphinha is keen to move to the Emirates this summer amid interest elsewhere from Chelsea, Tottenham and Barcelona and they plan to offer close to £50million for the ex-Rennes winger.

What was the point in Arsenal tabling that bid?

If they know that Leeds want £65million, why would you offer less than half of that up front in your opening offer even though you know you could go a lot higher?

It’s absolutely pointless.

Arsenal’s weird behaviour won’t get them anywhere, really.

If we were Raphinha, we’d be thinking, “is that really how much they value me?”.

It’s an insulting offer and Leeds should not have even dignified it with a response but at least there’s some grace and decorum among the hierarchy at Elland Road.

Arsenal could do with some lessons in that.

Raphinha is bound to leave Leeds this summer and we hope it’s for a much better than the reported deal that’s seeing Kalvin Phillips head to Manchester City.

Leeds cannot undervalue their best talent because it’s going to hurt them massively when they come to signing replacements.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites want to sell this player to an overseas club this summer.
