Arnaut Danjuma not on Leeds United shortlist despite come-and-get-me plea

Leeds United are not interested in signing Bournemouth forward Arnaut Danjuma despite his eagerness to join the club, according to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth.

Earlier on Friday, 24-year-old Danjuma told Voetbal International that he feels as though he’s outgrown the Championship and “a club like Leeds would be a great step” for him.

However, it seems as though the interest isn’t as mutual as Danjuma would have hoped.

Writing on the Yorkshire Evening Post, Smyth said: “While the YEP understands the 24-year-old is not on Victor Orta’s shortlist for this summer, Danjuma’s remarkable honesty will cause a stir in both West Yorkshire and on the south coast.”

Could things be about to change?

While Danjuma isn’t on Orta’s shortlist, could that change with the Leeds director of football now knowing that he’s keen to move to Elland Road in the summer?

We’re sure that if Danjuma was really serious about signing for the Whites then his agent would have already been in touch or something but there’s no denying the Dutchman had an impressive season at Bournemouth in the Championship.

Danjuma scored 17 goals and supplied eight assists in 37 appearances across all competitions last season for the Cherries, with two of those goals coming in the Championship play-off semi-finals.

The two-time Netherlands international scored in each of the semi-finals against Brentford but couldn’t stop the south coast club from losing to the eventual promotion-winners.

According to stats by WhoScored, Danjuma also ranked fifth in the Championship last season for dribbles per game [1.8], joint-14th for shots per game [2.1] and joint-17th for key passes per game [1.5].

He’s clearly a talented player but in order for him to get what looks like a dream move to Elland Road, a lot more will need to happen before Orta is convinced.

Right now, we’d say this is a deal that isn’t going to happen but Danjuma’s situation is definitely one to keep an eye out for over the summer months.
