Archie Gray stance on Brentford transfer shared as Leeds United make Elland Road exit call
Archie Gray is happy to stay at Leeds United but the Whites have made it clear they have to sell him to Brentford, according to Ben Jacobs.
The broadcaster reported via X on Saturday (29 June) that although the midfielder is willing to remain at Elland Road this summer and has not forced a move, the terms offered by the Bees are too good to turn down.
Gray is expected to undergo a medical with Thomas Frank’s side who have beaten several Premier League clubs to his signature after the two sides agreed a £35million transfer fee for the 18-year-old [David Ornstein, 29 June].
Has Archie Gray completed Leeds United exit amid Brentford transfer speculation?
Despite plenty of speculation throughout the entirety of last season linking Gray with a move to a host of Premier League sides, reports have always suggested that the teenager was more than willing to remain at Elland Road.
Daniel Farke has handed the 18-year-old a consistent place in the Whites starting XI week in and week out. Although the Premier League will be appealing, Gray will not necessarily be playing first-team football week in and week out.
Partner that with his family ties to the club and it shouldn’t come as a surprise to hear the midfielder was willing to stay this summer. Unfortunately, Championship sides aren’t normally able to reject £35millin fees.
Had Leeds United won promotion back to the Premier League either automatically or through the playoffs, Gray would have been going nowhere. That Wembley defeat to Southampton has proved costly in more ways than one.
Regardless of whether or not this deal is completed or a late hijack occurs, it seems likely we’ve seen the last of the teenager in a Leeds shirt, for now at least.
