Archie Gray could hamper Leeds United transfer for Jayden Bogle already
Leeds United are being hampered in their pursuit of Jayden Bogle as clubs know they have money in the bank, according to Joe Donnohue.
Speaking on the Inside Elland Road podcast with Graham Smyth (18 July), Donnohue said that other Championship clubs, like Sheffield United, are well aware of the £40million paid for Archie Gray.
He argued that despite selling Gray for a sizeable amount, the Whites still have profit and sustainability rules to adhere to, and are unlikely to budge on their valuation of Bogle having seen two bids rejected [The Star, 17 July].
Donnohue said: “With a year left on [Bogle’s] contract, I don’t see Leeds budging all that much on the fee that they’re willing to commit to him.
“Leeds have just very publicly made £40million from Archie Gray, so all these other selling clubs, like Sheffield United, will know there’s cash in the bank now.
“Their argument will be ‘what’s an extra £1.5–2million?’, but the P&S requirements are very pressing.”
Will Leeds United complete Jayden Bogle transfer?
Although Gray’s transfer to Tottenham made him one of the most expensive teenage footballers of all time, the deal was pushed through to fall within the 2023/24 financial year on the Whites’ books.
Therefore, the club can’t simply chip away at that £40million windfall to fund the transfer of Bogle this summer, thus the haggling over a potential fee is set to continue [Daily Mirror, 17 July].

With the two clubs roughly £3million apart in their valuation of the 23-year-old, it could still be some time yet before the Whites can finally seal a deal to bring Bogle to Elland Road.
That’s not good news for Daniel Farke, who has very few options at right-back at present following the sale of Gray and Connor Roberts’ return to Burnley at the end of last season.
If Bogle is the number one choice in his position for Farke this summer, the onus will be on the Peacocks to stump up the £7million fee which Sheffield United are satisfied with [Alan Nixon, 14 July].
