Archie Brown makes ‘honest’ transfer admission after Leeds development

Daniel Farke has to start preparing for life in the Premier League with Leeds United.

The Whites secured automatic promotion to the Premier League on Easter Monday and know that a win against Plymouth Argyle on Saturday (3 May) will be enough to send them up as champions.

Nevertheless, if the Whites want to retain their position in the top flight, the boss will have to make additions to his squad in the summer.

Archie Brown delivers Leeds United answer

Junior Firpo sees his contract with Leeds expire at the end of the season and extending his stay at Elland Road seems an unlikely outcome.

With that in mind, Farke needs to be looking at replacement options that can reach the levels that are expected in the Premier League.

One man who was on the list of targets in this position is Archie Brown, who has made 30 league appearances for Gent this term.

Leeds were said to be interested in him over the winter transfer window, with the intention of stepping up their pursuit in the summer.

With the likes of Chelsea, West Ham and Tottenham also interested in his services, the ability to deliver the levels needed in the Premier League looks promising.

However, the boss may be required to focus his attention elsewhere. When asked about the interest in him ahead of the summer, Brown told Transfermarkt (30 April): “As I said, my qualities will take me where they take me, whether that is the Premier League or somewhere else. To be honest, in the past, I have paid too much attention to possible interest in me. That was not good and I don’t do that anymore. The season is still going on and there is still a lot at stake, so the most important thing for me is to give everything for the team in the coming weeks.

“I also have a contract with KAA Gent for two years and I like being here, so I don’t necessarily have to leave this summer. At the moment, I am taking it game by game and I don’t want to look too far ahead. You never know that you will get seriously injured and then that possible interest is no longer worth anything. There are so many different factors that can change, so I just have to concentrate on what is happening on the pitch.”

Farke has to look at other options for Leeds

Brown is certainly a player who would be a strong signing for Leeds if they could secure his services in the summer transfer window and it could be seen as a statement of intent from Farke’s men.

However, based on his comment, it seems as though the left-back is fairly settled at Gent and enjoying his time, which is seemingly making him less keen on an exit.

With two years left on his contract, the right offer could tempt his current side into striking a deal, as it could be a good time to cash in on his services.

However, to have a player with his talent at just 22-years-old, if he is keen on staying put it seems unlikely that Gent would try and change his mind.
