Anthony Elanga sends message as private jet arrives amid Leeds transfer – ‘See you soon’

Anthony Elanga is edging closer to leaving Nottingham Forest after an impressive 2024/25 season at the City Ground.

Elanga, 23, scored six goals and supplied 11 assists in 38 Premier League appearances to help Forest qualify for European football next season.

He’s now won himself a big move away from the East Midlands, with Newcastle widely reported to have agreed a deal worth an initial £52million with the Reds.

Elanga reacts to Leeds transfer news as he undergoes Newcastle medical

Sky Sports News journalist Keith Downie shared footage on X on Tuesday (8 July) that showed Elanga disembarking a private jet ahead of undergoing a medical at St James’ Park.

And it seems that while he’s been undergoing his checks in the North-East, he’s had one eye on transfer news at Leeds United.

Daniel Farke sealed his fourth new signing of the summer on Tuesday with Swedish left-back Gabriel Gudmundsson arriving from Lille.

Gundmundsson, 26, joins Jaka Bijol, Lukas Nmecha and Sebastiaan Bournauw in making moves to Elland Road ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League season.

After sealing his move to Leeds, Gudmundsson took to Instagram to say: “New chapter. New challenge. Leeds United – let’s do this!”

Gudmundsson’s Sweden teammate Elanga, presumably still on Tyneside while commenting, replied to say: “Good luck, my brother! See you soon.”

Leeds beef up squad with Gudmundsson transfer

Farke had to address his full-back options this summer.

Junior Firpo has left Elland Road due to his contract expiring so a top-class left-back had to be brought in in order for Leeds to avoid relegation back to the Championship.

Malmö-born Gudmundsson can play anywhere on the left flank and has previously also filled in on the right, so he’s versatile and that could come in handy for Farke if there are any injury issues on the other side of his defence.

He’s also made over 130 appearances for Lille in all competitions and has 15 caps for Sweden.

There’s no doubt that Gudmundsson could have more top-level experience but he’s definitely going to get that at Elland Road and at 26 years of age, he’s got the potential to offer some resale value, too.
