Anonymous sources deny responsibility for failed Leeds United transfer
Anonymous sources have claimed that Chelsea’s move to sign midfielder Tyler Adams from Leeds United didn’t break down because of the club’s move for Moises Caicedo, according to The Athletic.
The news outlet reported on 20 August that officials at Elland Road were “never fully convinced” that a deal to take the US international to Stamford Bridge would ever be completed.
The Blues then signed Caicedo for a club-record £115million from Brighton on 15 August, while Adams finalised a move to Bournemouth on 20 August for a fee in excess of £20million.

Who knows
It’s probably unlikely that the real reason why Adams’ move to Chelsea fell through will ever be confirmed officially by either club.
It felt as though the Blues were just looking to sign the American as a potential option for a relatively cheap fee because they were lacking depth in midfield.
But they have since managed to secure a deal for Caicedo which, although The Athletic’s sources suggest wasn’t the case, could have had some impact on the 24-year-old’s move to Stamford Bridge falling through.

Whatever the reason was, it worked out better for Leeds in the end anyway, as the offer on the table from Bournemouth is believed to be more than Chelsea were set to pay following the expiration of his £20million release clause on 14 August.
The Whites will now be looking to use the money gained from the sale of the midfielder to strengthen other areas of the squad as Daniel Farke aims to secure his first league win since taking over at the West Yorkshire club.
In other Leeds United news, one player could be set to be offered a new contract despite wanting to leave the club.
