Angus Kinnear reveals what Leeds will be 'prioritising' in January
Every Leeds United fan will remember the nightmare that was the January transfer window last season.
Daniel James had pretty much put pen-to-paper on a move to Elland Road before Swansea pulled the plug, leaving the Whites with no fresh outfield players.
Everyone knows what happened next with that one, and Leeds will surely be desperate not to see anything like that happen again this season.
Leeds Chief Executive, Angus Kinnear has revealed that the Whites will be prioritising matters closer to home, but wouldn’t rule out being busy in the window.
“As the festive schedule gathers pace the media’s attention will turn to the January transfer window and the frenzy of speculation around the hunt for the elusive “season-changing” player will intensify,” he wrote in his programme notes for the Cardiff clash, as quoted by Leeds Live.
“While Victor’s scouting team are as close to the market as ever, we will be prioritising not disrupting the stability of the existing squad versus gambling on any introductions.”

Kinnear went on to explain why keeping the current squad of players together is so important for Marcelo Bielsa and Leeds’ promotion hopes.
“We believe that the continuity that the current squad have in working with Marcelo for 18 months is the cornerstone of the progress we have made to date and that the players’ ability to adapt across positions and systems give us the strength in depth required to see out the campaign.”
So, Victor Orta and his team are busy as always at this time of year, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that Leeds will be active in the market – it only remains a possibility.
Keeping the squad together is vital, of course, and the returning trio of Adam Forshaw, Tyler Roberts, and Jamie Shackleton could act as new signings at Elland Road.
Should a smart deal spring up in January, Leeds should not think twice before finalising the move, especially after what happened with James last season.
