Angus Kinnear resigned to losing Robin Koch but he won’t leave Leeds United for free this summer
Angus Kinnear is “resigned” to losing Robin Koch this summer, but he will not be allowed to leave for free despite reports elsewhere according to Leeds-Live (12 June).
The German defender is said to have a release clause in his contract after the club were relegated, with BILD (12 June) reporting that he would be allowed to leave for free despite having one year remaining on his deal.
But while the expectation is that the 26-year-old will leave Elland Road before the new season, Leeds are expecting to receive a fee for any deal.

“Exits at Leeds United this summer are expected to include Robin Koch, but the German international will not leave the club for free,” they wrote.
“The 26-year-old is approaching the final 12 months of his Whites deal and relegation has virtually guaranteed he will not sign new terms at Elland Road.
“In the absence of a director of football or head coach, chief executive Angus Kinnear is currently heading up transfer dealings. Kinnear is resigned to selling Koch this summer, but LeedsLive understands he will not walk away for nothing.”
Phew
Leeds are a crazy club and have done some questionable things in the past, so it was difficult to completely rule out that they could have put this type of clause into someone’s contract.
However it’s pleasing to hear that while there are many things wrong at the club right now, this isn’t one of them and one of our better defensive players won’t be leaving for free.

There was talk of a potential exit even if we stayed up at the end of the 2022/23 season, as he is keen to break into the national team ahead of the 2024 European Championships.
An exit for the team’s better players simply has to be expected and accepted, but the club have been good in the market in recent years when it comes to sales and that has to continue for us to have any chance of not being ripped off.
A free transfer away would have been criminal, but now the fans can rest easy and be assured that won’t be happening.
In other Leeds news, one star has been spotted abroad after holding talks with the boss of a club who wants to sign him.
