Andrea Radrizzani sends thank you message as Leeds United exit confirmed

Andrea Radrizzani has sent a farewell message to Liam Cooper following confirmation of the defender’s departure from Leeds United.

It was confirmed by the club this week (official website) that Cooper has brought an end to a decade-long innings at Elland Road, attracting thousand of warm well-wishes from fans ahead of a move to Bulgarian side CSKA Sofia.

Former Leeds owner and chairman Radrizzani took to X [12 September] to respond to Phil Hay’s post wishing Cooper well, and reinforced the message by posting: “Thank you, Captain, over the years you grew into a leader and a role model.”

Just one measure of the impact Cooper had on every element of Leeds United is the fact that Radrizzani felt it appropriate to share his first X post for over a year to offer the defender his thanks.

The former Whites chairman’s last public contribution on the platform came in September 2023, telling a supporter: “I can say what I like, feel free to unfollow me”.

Cooper has entered testimonial territory in Elland Road folklore, and will no doubt return for an appearance of this ilk during which he can exchange proper goodbyes with the supporters.

His future remained uncertain after the expiry of his contract at the end of June, and his final game for the club turned out to be an eight-minute play-off semi-final cameo against Norwich City.

A new adventure in Eastern Europe beckons for the 33-year-old Scotland international, who will battle to return his side to continental competition after 284 outings donning the Leeds badge.

In other Leeds news, the club have been backed to sign a free agent defender.
