Alioski has not rejected new Leeds contract
Ezgjan Alioski has not rejected a contract offer from Leeds United, according to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth.
Earlier this week, Turkish news outlet Milliyet reported that Alioski, 29, had turned down a new deal at Elland Road and was “very close” to agreeing to join Galatasaray.
However, Smyth has taken to Twitter to report that is not the case. He said on Tuesday afternoon: “Hasn’t rejected an offer as far as I’m aware. Nor has he signed it, however.”
Put your pitchforks away, for now
We don’t need to explain why it would cause outrage if Alioski snubbed Leeds in favour of joining Galatasaray.
The Turkish media is notorious for spouting absolute nonsense about Premier League players. In the summer, West Brom’s Kamil Grosicki took to Twitter to confirm he wasn’t joining Besiktas amid reports he’d agreed a deal in principle [beIN SPORTS].
Alioski’s contract at Leeds does expire in the summer, North Macedonia isn’t too far from Turkey and we assume Galatasaray want a new left-back so the Turkish media are more than likely putting two and two together.
If they are, they’re vastly underestimating what it would mean for a player to quit Leeds to join Galatasaray.
If Alioski’s going to leave then he can do so with our blessing because he hasn’t been amazing this season or anything.
But please, Gjanni. Don’t join them.
Luckily, Smyth’s update which rubbished Milliyet’s claim about Alioski rejecting the contract means the whole report is likely nonsense and the left-back isn’t closing in on a move to Istanbul.
In other Leeds United news, this £19,000-a-week player is unlikely to get much more game-time for the Whites this term.
