Agent may just have sealed Joel Piroe exit after new Leeds United transfer revelation

Joel Piroe could be heading for a Leeds United transfer exit before the winter window shuts.

Piroe was the Championship’s top scorer as Leeds were promoted to the Premier League last year, as the striker set his sights on proving he could thrive in the English top-flight.

But with summer signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin being a revelation for Leeds, along with fellow forward recruit Lukas Nmecha firing in important goals at Elland Road, Piroe has been left on the fringes.

In fact, the 26-year-old has racked up just 203 minutes in the league this season, and that has led to speculation Piroe will leave Leeds this month.

Amid Leeds’ pursuit of Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen, Piroe is increasingly having to consider his Elland Road career in the coming days.

Despite Calvert-Lewin and Nmecha impressing for Leeds this season, it seems the 49ers Enterprises want more firepower in attack.

As a result, Leeds have offered Wolves £39million for Strand Larsen, but that offer has since been rejected.

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Norway international Strand Larsen likes the idea of a move to Leeds.

Moreover, his agent, Tore Pederson, is a Leeds fan and regularly attends Elland Road matches. He too likes the prospect of a Leeds transfer.

That could signal the end of Piroe’s Leeds career. His contract expires in 2027, and there is a lot of interest in him from Championship sides.

If Piroe does leave, Leeds would want to sell him, rather than loan him out, in order to ease their fears over falling afoul of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Piroe has been a valuable servant for Leeds since signing from Swansea City in 2023. He was a regular starter and scorer in the Championship, but he hasn’t made the step up to Premier League level, yet.

He would argue that he has not been given a chance to shine, with two Premier League starts evidence of that. But if Strand Larsen does join, it is surely curtains for Piroe at Leeds.

Is Strand Larsen the answer for Leeds?

If Leeds had signed Strand Larsen in the summer off the back of scoring 14 goals last season for Wolves, many fans would have welcomed the signing – even if he cost upwards of £55m.

Wolves rejected such a bid from Newcastle United at the start of the 2025-26 season, and in light of the Midlands outfit struggling this season, the 25-year-old’s form has gone off a cliff.

With Rob Edwards’ team almost certain to get relegated to the Championship, Strand Larsen has scored just once in the Premier League this season.

With Wolves said to be demanding £40m for his signature, Leeds have a decision to make. Do they increase their offer, pull out of the race entirely, or risk a bidding war with other teams in the summer?

With his agent pushing him towards Leeds, he could also have sealed an exit for Piroe in the process.
