Adam Pope thinks Leeds United must avoid ‘remarkable’ player who ‘does not fit profile’

Leeds United have some tough decisions to make in the final weeks of the transfer window, as Daniel Farke wants more signings.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has moved to Elland Road as a free agent after leaving Everton at the end of last season, but fans will certainly want to see more depth added up front.

Farke may look to build his team around Joel Piroe after his impressive performances last season, but the Dutch striker will undoubtedly need a supporting cast in LS11.

While the German manager hasn’t ruled out the addition of another number nine at the West Yorkshire outfit, there is a clear indication of the profile of players they are looking for.

Jamie Vardy transfer wouldn’t make sense for Leeds United

Former Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy doesn’t feel like the right signing for Leeds, Adam Pope says.

The BBC Sport journalist believes that while some of the Elland Road faithful might want to see the 38-year-old in LS11, he does not fit the profile of players being targeted by the Whites, who have looked to add more physicality to their team this summer.

Pope feels that a few fans suggest that the former England international is “worth a punt”, but he does not fit the profile of the West Yorkshire outfit’s recent recruitment strategy.

The journalist wrote in BBC Sport on 20 August: “The Foxes captain’s former team-mate Jamie Vardy, who is without a club, has been suggested by some supporters as worth a punt by Leeds.

“But at 38 years of age and with the physicality United have typically been looking at in their recruits, the former England man does not fit the profile.”

Daniel Farke doesn’t need another backup striker in Jamie Vardy

Vardy will undoubtedly demand a handsome wage at Leeds if he were to move to West Yorkshire this summer.

The 38-year-old is arguably in the final stages of his career, but he showed last season that he can still perform at the highest level despite Leicester’s relegation.

However, the Elland Road faithful are waiting for a big-money arrival in LS11 after the Peacocks failed to sign Igor Paixao for around £30million.

Leeds look set to sign Noah Okafor from AC Milan, but the 25-year-old arguably isn’t someone who will get the fans’ juices flowing.

While Vardy was once described as “remarkable” by Brendan Rodgers during their time together at Leicester, his quality has deteriorated since then.

Instead of signing someone like the 38-year-old who will most likely not be able to compete with Piroe for a starting berth, the addition of a proven quality goalscorer should be a priority for the West Yorkshire outfit before Deadline Day.
