Adam Pope shares what he's learned about Lucas Perri transfer bid - 'I learned very recently...'
Lucas Perri looks certain to depart Leeds United this summer.
The Brazilian goalkeeper arrived at Elland Road from Lyon for a reported £15.6million fee in July 2025.
Perri, 28, started the campaign as Leeds' first-choice goalkeeper, but a series of erratic performances cost him his place in the side.
Karl Darlow usurped him as first choice, and even though his own Leeds future is unresolved, the Whites will likely try and move Perri on in the summer transfer window.
There had even been talk of Perri departing the club in the last transfer window, though ultimately that did not materialise.
BBC Sports broadcaster Adam Pope has now spoken about what he has heard about previous interest in Perri.
Leeds responded to January bid for Lucas Perri
One issue Leeds face with Perri is the fact he is on a contract that runs until June 2029.
So, Perri will likely only agree to an Elland Road exit if any potential suitors match the money and length of deal he has with Leeds.
However, according to Pope - speaking on the 'Don't Go to Bed Yet' podcast - an offer did arrive for Perri back in January.
But Leeds ultimately decided to reject it, probably to ensure they did not leave themselves light between the sticks for the second half of the season.
Pope said: "Perri is interesting. I learned very recently that when he was effectively dropped down to number two, an offer apparently came in for him of similar value to what Leeds had paid.
"Apparently, that was the case. He is on a big contract, one of the biggest contracts until 2029, but Leeds didn’t accept that offer. You can guess, it was in January.”
What is the state of Leeds' goalkeeping department?
Leeds are looking at making several additions this summer to build on their successful return to the Premier League last season.
The likes of Shea Charles, Julian Brandt, and Harry Wilson are all on the club's radar as they look to bolster their ranks for the coming campaign.
But goalkeeper is certainly an area of concern for Leeds. Darlow ended the campaign as number one, but has yet to agree to a new contract.
Illan Meslier has departed on a free transfer after falling down the pecking order following a string of poor performances.
And with Perri massively out of favour at Elland Road, Daniel Farke will be keen to strengthen his options between the posts in the coming weeks.
