Adam Pope shares two positions Leeds United will prioritise for summer transfers

Leeds United are expected to sign a quality goalkeeper and striker in the upcoming transfer window.

BBC Sport journalist Adam Pope believes the Whites will spend the bulk of their funds on signing a new number one and bolstering their attack for Daniel Farke.

Over the last two transfer windows, the West Yorkshire outfit have reinforced every area of their pitch, including the arrivals of Lucas Perri, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha.

Despite the recent investment, the Peacocks seem eager to add a new shot-stopper and number nine to their ranks, and Premier League survival will surely be pivotal to pull that off.

Lucas Perri days numbered at Leeds United after Daniel Farke snub

Farke seems to have lost faith in Perri after the Brazilian goalkeeper’s underwhelming performances since signing from Olympique Lyon.

It looks like the 28-year-old could potentially be out of Elland Road just a year after signing for the Whites.

Karl Darlow has retained the number one position for the West Yorkshire outfit after doing so towards the end of last season, as Illan Meslier struggled for form.

Writing in BBC Sport on 12 February, Pope said, “A top-class goalkeeper and a striker are where I would expect to see the bulk of a transfer kitty spent.”

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha in fine form for the Peacocks this season, one might wonder why they want to invest heavily in another striker, but the duo’s injury record is evident for everyone to see.

49ers Enterprises looked eager to go all out for Jorgen Strand Larsen in the winter transfer window before he joined Crystal Palace from Wolves, indicating that the American owners want to make a statement signing up top.

Joel Piroe looks destined to leave Leeds after struggling for game time in the Premier League this season.

Despite being the leading goalscorer in the Championship and playing a key role in the Whites’ promotion, Farke doesn’t seem to have faith in him anymore.

The Suriname international’s summer exit seems inevitable, which might be one of the reasons the West Yorkshire outfit would want to sign a new number nine.

At the moment, the Peacocks are favourites to avoid Premier League relegation, and exciting times could potentially be ahead for fans in LS11.
