Adam Pope reacts to Jorgen Strand Larsen transfer news, ‘really big’ Leeds exit on cards

Wolves want £40million for Jorgen Strand Larsen as Leeds United see their initial bid rejected for the striker in the winter transfer window.

Strand Larsen’s exit from Molineux isn’t viewed as necessary, with the West Midlands outfit content with him staying until the end of the season.

Daniel Farke is looking to add a centre-forward at Elland Road in January, and it looks like the Whites have set their eyes on the Norway international.

While the West Yorkshire outfit’s fans will be encouraged to see ambition from 49ers Enterprises, a massive deal for the 25-year-old striker may lead to some knock-on effects sooner rather than later.

Leeds United PSR concerns raised after Jorgen Strand Larsen bid

Adam Pope questions how Leeds will be able to afford a potential deal over £40m for Strand Larsen without any issues regarding Profitability and Sustainability Rules.

The BBC Sport journalist wonders whether the Elland Road hierarchy may include Joel Piroe in negotiations for the Norwegian centre-forward.

In order to avoid any PSR worries, the Whites might have to sanction the exit of a first-team superstar in the summer to possibly balance their books if they spend heavily on the Wolves striker.

Speaking on The Square Ball on 23 January, Pope said, “Would you pay, let’s say, £40m-plus for him at this point. And if you do, how do you structure that without busting PSR or throwing a Piroe in or selling somebody really big by the end of 30 June?”

Piroe has been linked with an exit from Elland Road, and it would make sense to move on from the Suriname international if Strand Larsen does sign for the Peacocks.

The situation in LS11 will surely be one to keep an eye on as the countdown to the 2 February transfer deadline continues.

Which superstar could leave Elland Road in the summer?

Tottenham have been linked with Pascal Struijk in the past, and the North London outfit may look to make a move for him soon.

Leeds have seen the Dutch defender go from strength to strength in recent seasons, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see a top team make a sizable offer for him at the end of the season.

The 26-year-old is still in the prime ages of his career, making him a lucrative asset at Elland Road, though his contractual situation is concerning.

Struijk’s current deal expires in 2027, which will surely leave the West Yorkshire outfit with a big decision to make over his future in the summer.
