'Absolute machine', 'Shocked' – These Leeds fans react as striker linked with Elland Rd move
Britt Assombalonga is the latest striker to be linked with Leeds United in the January window but fans are split about whether he’d be a good signing for Marcelo Bielsa.
The report came from the Mirror who claim that Leeds are interested in the DR Congo striker, who hasn’t got the most exciting record as a goal-scorer.
He got 14 last season for Middlesbrough but he’s missed the last eight games through injury and, while he’s been relatively injury-free since his £15m move from Forest, he suffered a serious knee injury at Nottingham Forest.
That saw him miss the final third of the 14/15 season and almost the entirety of the 15/16 season, where he came back for four appearances at the end of the campaign.
That’s got a lot of Leeds fans worried – even the ones that like the idea of the Middlesbrough striker signing.
There are a couple of reasons why Assombalonga might be being linked. Patrick Bamford has played up front with him at Boro in a 4-4-2 before he joined Leeds, and Victor Orta has good contacts at Middlesbrough after working there as head of recruitment from 2015.
Assombalonga won’t be the last name to be linked with Leeds in this window – at least we hope not.
There are others we’d prefer to see before him, and that’s the view of the majority, but not all, Leeds fans.
I'd understand the 'Injury prone' comments more if he hadn't made 46 apps last season, 47 apps the season before and 19 so far this season…I'd have him, pace to burn and scores goals, why not? #lufc https://t.co/zdrrWDwkWq

Jesus. He’s made from the same glass we cut Forshaw and Roberts from. Very anti climatic if he’s the one. #LUFC https://t.co/jDvBhprteP

Bielsa signs the players off who he wants correct? Has said he'd sign no one if not the right player. Also said he wanted a striker ASAP. Thats how we know this is bullshit. #lufc https://t.co/3XqmQz9WcP
