Aberdeen record transfer for Calvin Ramsay almost certain as Leeds United make move

Aberdeen are “almost certain” to receive a club-record fee for Calvin Ramsay after Leeds United made a move to sign the right-back, according to the Evening Express journalist Sean Wallace.

Writing in the newspaper’s print edition on Saturday [29 January, back page], Wallace reported that Bologna have offered £4.8million to sign the 18-year-old but are still short of Aberdeen’s valuation.

Leeds have reported “made a move” for the Scotland Under-21 international and Aberdeen chiefs want to get as much money as possible for their academy product.

Not a priority

Leeds cannot waste time in the final few days of the January transfer window by trying to sign a young right-back who won’t be a regular starter.

Ramsay could end up being a really good addition for Leeds over time – but some short-term planning needs to be done right now in order to ensure we don’t go anywhere near the relegation zone.

There’s still a lot of football to play this season and in order for Leeds to progress as a club, they need to show they can be an established Premier League club.

We finished ninth last season and it would be amazing for us to finish in the mid-table area again or even clinch a top-half spot by the time May comes around.

If we do that, it’ll help us sign better new players as transfer targets may see Leeds as a place where they could eventually challenge for silverware or for a spot in Europe.

If we linger where we are right now in the league or even drop into a relegation dogfight, the summer transfer window will be a lot tougher.

Ramsay would be a good signing for the future but we need one or two midfielders and a striker right now.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites may agree a late January exit if a “mega-money” offer is tabled for this European player.
