Leeds United ready to battle Liverpool to sign Ramsay as transfer value soars

Leeds United are ready to “fight” Liverpool in a transfer battle to sign Aberdeen right-back Calvin Ramsay, according to The Times.

The newspaper reports that Aberdeen rejected a £4million bid from Bologna for Ramsay, 18, in the January transfer window “and his value has increased greatly since then”.

The Scotsman reported on 24 May that Ramsay is more likely to get first-team action at Elland Road than at Anfield, where he would be seen as a back-up for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Step aside, Luke Ayling

If this season has proven anything, it’s that the Leeds United squad is not good enough to survive the rigours of a Premier League season.

We were almost relegated and the biggest reason why was surely the lack of strength in depth.

Marcelo Bielsa liked to have a small squad.

For the majority of his reign in charge, that was fine as while we had injuries, we didn’t have injuries as bad as we’ve had this season.

Jesse Marsch cannot afford to be the same.

Patrick Bamford, Kalvin Phillips and Liam Cooper had all missed massive chunks of the campaign while Luke Ayling, Junior Firpo, Rodrigo, Adam Forshaw, Diego Llorente and Robin Koch also all had spells out of the side.

It saw us name reserve teams at times due to the selection issues.

Ramsay is a top young right-back who’s taken Scotland by storm.

He is someone who could replace Ayling in the starting line-up next season after Ayling let everyone down so badly at the back-end of this season.

In other Leeds United news, this Leeds ace is set to hold crunch talks with Andrea Radrizzani.
