’49ers stumble again’ as Reinildo to Leeds United update emerges
Reinildo has been a target for Leeds United this summer.
Daniel Farke will be pleased with the signings of Jaka Bijol and Lukas Nmecha, though he will be intent on seeing more new faces through the door at Elland Road immediately.
Habib Diarra was a strong target for the Whites, but the Senegalese international has since opted for a move to Sunderland, while it was claimed that Leeds were not willing to match the fee set by the Black Cats.
However, the Whites look set for more transfer disappointment, after a new update emerged on their pursuit of Atletico Madrid defender Reinildo.

Sunderland set to beat Leeds to second summer signing
Surviving in the Premier League is a tough task, though it is one that can certainly be achieved if recruitment is done well.
Farke has already had his defensive bolstered with the addition of Bijol, but Leeds had also set their sights on Atletico Madrid defender Reinildo, who is due to leave the Spanish outfit on a free transfer.
Reinildo’s 2024/25 La Liga statistics | Total |
Appearances (starts) | 19 (10) |
Touches | 39.5 |
Accurate passes | 23 (84%) |
Clean sheets | 4 |
Clearances | 1.7 |
Total duels won | 2.6 (49%) |
However, as per a report from The Sun (29 June), Sunderland have now “swooped ahead” of the Whites in the race to sign the veteran defender, with Crystal Palace also interested.
Given the fact that he would have been unlikely to start, it isn’t necessarily a massive blow for the Whites, though it is also not a good look if they miss out on a second signing to a relegation rival.
Transfer activity needs to accelerate at Elland Road in the coming weeks, with the Whites stumbling in their attempts right now.

Farke needs more support this summer
Leeds are in dire need of new quality, if they are to have any chance of breaking the trend set by most newly promoted teams.
Missing out on targets isn’t the end of the world, proving that they have others in mind and are ready to launch offers.
Time will tell if the 49ers have made the right decisions, with a crucial period ahead.
