49ers open to another Leeds United first-team sale amid Illan Meslier development – David Ornstein

Leeds United owners 49ers Enterprises are open to selling Illan Meslier this summer, according to David Ornstein.

Writing on The Athletic website (2 July), the journalist reports that the club’s hierarchy were open to doing a deal for the goalkeeper or Willy Gnonto to ease their PSR concerns before Tottenham made their move for Archie Gray.

Ligue 1 clubs Marseille and Monaco are both interested in signing the 24-year-old [Daily Mail, 29 June], with the Whites looking for a fee in excess of £20million [Daily Mail, 28 June].

Leeds United to lose Illan Meslier?

Last summer it looked inevitable that Meslier would move on after losing his place in the team at the end of the previous campaign under Sam Allardyce.

But Daniel Farke came in and made him feel at home once again, and despite the arrival of Karl Darlow it was made clear immediately that Meslier would be the number one goalkeeper for the campaign.

Interest from Celta Vigo never materialised and Meslier ended up with the most clean sheets in the Championship, but the team failed to earn promotion back to the Premier League and now face the risk of seeing their squad picked apart.

Marseille have decided not to pursue Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier

Meslier is at a stage in his career where he wants to be pushing for international football and for that sort of contention, he must be playing at the highest level.

Should a club come in and match Leeds’ asking price then there will be a big decision to make this summer, but Meslier could well be on his way out of Elland Road.

In other Leeds news, the club have been handed a major boost in their bid to keep Crysencio Summerville after a £33m development emerged.
