49ers ‘have transfer green-light at Leeds United’ after Habib Diarra agreement

Leeds United have been given a massive boost as they look to sign Strasbourg midfielder Habib Diarra this transfer window.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed some impressive years at the Ligue 1 outfit and captained them to a seventh-place finish in the league last season.

Daniel Farke seems to have taken notice of Diarra and wants to sign the Senegal international at the Whites in the coming weeks.

Udinese centre-back Jaka Bijol is close to arriving at Elland Road, and the midfielder’s addition may follow after, with an exit almost guaranteed.

Diarra has transfer agreement with Strasbourg amid Leeds United interest

Strasbourg president Marc Keller has promised Diarra he can depart this summer.

The Ligue 1 outfit’s chief revealed that the Senegalese midfielder is due to leave soon, having agreed to do so during his previous contract negotiations, giving 49ers Enterprises the green light to pursue his transfer at Elland Road.

Keller admits that if an enticing offer is made for the 21-year-old soon, he could be on his way out of La Meinau.

Speaking to RMC (16 June), he said: “There’s one player who’s due to leave based on a promise I made to him two years ago: our captain, Diarra. When he extended his contract, we told him he was extending it, but that he wouldn’t leave until June 2025.”

“So if we get an interesting offer for him and for us, he could leave.”

Leeds must push for Diarra transfer at Elland Road

Paraag Marathe should back Farke at Leeds this summer, and initial indications have been positive.

Lukas Nmecha’s transfer to Elland Road has been confirmed, and Bijol could potentially be the Whites’ second signing of the current window.

It’s encouraging to see the 49ers act swiftly, but more additions are evidently needed at the West Yorkshire outfit after Premier League promotion.

Diarra’s potential move to Leeds will help add more depth in the midfield, with Joe Rothwell and Josuha Guilavogui leaving.

Farke should demand more additions in the engine room, as well as other positions, with new defenders and attackers arguably also needed.

The West Yorkshire outfit must build a competitive squad to avoid immediate relegation from the Premier League, and the Senegal international’s addition will be exciting.

Diarra has shown a lot of potential at Strasbourg, and the Elland Road faithful will hope he can further develop in LS11 once the 21-year-old signed.
