20-year-old Euro winger emerges on Leeds radar amid drawn-out Poveda pursuit – report

Leeds United are interested in signing Stabaek winger Emil Bohinen this month, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The newspaper claims that the 20-year-old has emerged as a target for the Whites as they aim to replace Jack Clarke after he was recalled from his loan spell at Elland Road by Tottenham.

Bohinen can play as both a central midfielder or on the right-wing so there is a chance that Leeds are keen on him due to his versatility and ability to fill in two positions that could do with extra strength in depth.

The Yorkshire Evening Post adds that Bohinen has emerged on Leeds’ radar amid the drawn-out pursuit of Manchester City winger Ian Poveda.

Poveda, 19, is understood to have held talks with the Championship giants and is keen on a switch to Elland Road but there is still interest in him from abroad and it has been 10 days since it was first reported that the Yorkshire club was set to sign the City winger.

Leeds’ interest in Bohinen could suggest that the confidence of signing Poveda is not quite as strong as what it was and the Norway Under-21 international has been lined up as another option.

Bohinen certainly has more first-team experience than Poveda anyway with the Norwegian midfielder making 31 appearances in the 2019 season for Stabaek.

He also scored four goals and supplied eight assists for the Olso club as they finished eighth in the Norwegian top-flight.

Leeds need to sign some new players as soon as possible as the bench that Marcelo Bielsa was forced to name at QPR was nowhere near good enough for a promotion-chasing side.

A good young player like Bohinen, who has senior experience, would be a better option off the bench than some of Leeds’ Under-23s players.
