18y/o bids farewell to club as he reportedly closes in on multi-million Leeds switch

Soon-to-be Leeds United striker Sam Greenwood has posted a farewell message to Arsenal on Instagram as he closes in on a move to West Yorkshire.

LeedsLive reported that Greenwood, 18, underwent a medical with Leeds on Wednesday ahead of joining in a deal worth up to £3million.

It now appears as though Leeds are set to announce the England Under-18 international’s arrival based on his latest Instagram post.

Greenwood wrote: “I want to say a big thankyou to Arsenal and the supporters for the last two years of my career.

“Been an honour to play for the club while meeting some special people and making even better memories.”

Greenwood appears to have jumped the gun here because neither Leeds or Arsenal have made an official statement as of yet.

Leeds have already made a few additions to their Under-23s squad this summer with Joe Gelhardt, Charlie Allen, Cody Drameh and Dani van den Heuvel being snapped up by director of football Victor Orta.

Greenwood looks set to become the third young striker to arrive through the doors at Thorp Arch and he arrives with good pedigree having risen through the ranks at both Sunderland and Arsenal.

At the age of 17, Greenwood broke into Arsenal’s Under-23s side last season and scored one goal in his five Premier League 2 appearances.

We doubt that we will see the England youth international any time soon with Rodrigo set to join up with the first-team, adding yet another striker to the squad.

But Greenwood is someone who Leeds will monitor and develop over the period of a few years so maybe, one day, he will become a new Elland Road star.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are keen on this £20million-rated left-back from Eastern Europe.
