Willy Gnonto already makes Leeds United forget Crysencio Summerville after what he did

Leeds United underwent a massive overhaul of players during the summer transfer window.

The Whites’ attack was the area of Daniel Farke’s squad that was changed the most with both Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter leaving.

Farke is currently happy with the attackers in his ranks [Ben Jacobs, 27 September] and Willy Gnonto proved why during Leeds’ 3-0 victory over Coventry at Elland Road on 28 September.

The attacker had a say in all three goals, scoring the first with a great first-time finish before setting up Joel Piroe to put the icing on the cake.

Willy Gnonto is new Leeds United star

Gnonto’s Leeds future was under a magnifying glass for the vast majority of the summer window with teams such as Everton vying for his transfer [Nancy Froston, 6 August].

Unlike Summerville and Rutter, however, the Italy international chose to stay in West Yorkshire and help the club in their quest for Premier League promotion.

It feels as if Summerville may already be forgotten after what Gnonto did against Mark Robins’ men.

The winger touched the ball 41 times in the win, with 74 per cent of his passes being successful, with two key passes and the big chance created for Piroe [Sofascore].

The former Zurich starlet completed 100 per cent of the dribbles he attempted and hit the target with 50 per cent of his shots at Elland Road.

Indeed, he did lose possession of the ball 14 times and fouled the opposition on five separate occasions but his attacking prowess managed to shine through.

There’s still plenty of time left in the season for things to change but the fact that Gnonto has taken on Summerville’s role with ease further reiterates that Leeds could be in for an exciting campaign.
