Sam Greenwood masterstroke could help Leeds United usurp Sunderland
Sam Greenwood could become the unlikely hero for Leeds United as they look to usurp Sunderland in the Championship on Wednesday.
The Whites will be determined to return to the top two in the Championship when they face Millwall at The Den on 6 November.
However, Daniel Farke’s side could go atop the table for the first time this season if the result of the game between Preston North End and Sunderland at Deepdale tonight also goes their way.
Sam Greenwood loan could become Leeds United masterstroke
With Preston sitting 21st in the table and winless in three games, Sunderland are the clear favourites going into the game, but Leeds may have an unlikely hero in Greenwood.
The Whites loanee has been in red-hot form for the Lilywhites, scoring once in each of their last three outings while also providing an assist.
Preston’s last match ended in a disappointing 3-1 loss to Bristol City, but Greenwood was their best player by a mile, finding the back of the net with a sublime free-kick goal.
Starting alongside Emil Riis Jakobsen in a two-man attack, the 22-year-old registered four shots and also created a chance (FotMob).
He had 56 touches of the ball – the fourth-highest among Preston players, with six of them coming in the opposition box.

Greenwood, who completed two dribbles with 100 per cent success, completed only 15 of his 24 passes, but six of them were played into the final third, highlighting his desire to make a difference for his team.
He was also heavily involved in defence, winning seven duels, registering five defensive actions and winning a tackle.
Any hopes of Preston causing an upset over Sunderland, therefore, relies on Greenwood. The attacker’s Elland Road stint may well be over (Lancashire Post), but he now has a chance to be the hero for Leeds United.
