Max Wober has long way to go after ‘Acid test’ in Leeds United v Middlesbrough

Max Wober has been struggling with injuries lately at Leeds United, and while his return to the starting XI against Middlesbrough was encouraging, his performance was far from satisfactory.

The Whites faced Boro on Tuesday [10 December] in the Championship at Elland Road, and goals from Willy Gnonto, Daniel James and Brenden Aaronson sealed a 3-1 victory for the hosts.

Daniel Farke’s team are considered one of the favourites in the promotion race, and there are high expectations for the West Yorkshire club this season.

While the Whites put in a convincing display against Boro, Wober’s performance may worry some.

Max Wober fails in Leeds United win v Middlesbrough

Speaking on BBC Radio Leeds [10 December, 19:28] ahead of the Middlesbrough clash, Adam Pope said: “Look, it’s never over.

“Once you turn coat, it’s very difficult to put the colours back on and people look at you the same way, and it can turn very quickly. If he has a bad game tonight against a good side, this is the acid test, isn’t it? He’s got to perform tonight.”

The Austria international was also at fault for Leeds conceding, scoring an own goal in the second half to equalise for the opposition.

Farke shouldn’t have played the 26-year-old out of position, as he managed just 25 per cent crossing accuracy and completed just 33 per cent of his long balls.

Wober was also suspect defensively at times, committing three fouls, but he did win two of his three tackles and four of his seven ground duels

The Austrian has a long way to go before the Elland Road faithful forgive him for abandoning them after their relegation, with small steps being taken.
