Leeds will be denied Premier League survival by this alarming stat that dates back to 2013/14

Leeds United’s hopes of surviving in the Premier League may rest on their ability to turn this stat on its head in the remainder of the season.

Daniel Farke’s side find themselves sitting precariously above the drop zone just over two months into their return to the top flight, and there are already concerns emerging after a bright start.

Leeds were beaten 2-0 by Burnley last weekend, as their fellow newly-promoted side secured a crucial victory in the ‘six-pointer’ despite the Whites dominating the game in terms of chances.

The reality of the task facing the Elland Road outfit is already beginning to set in, and it is rapidly becoming clear that this alarming figure cannot be allowed to continue if they want to finish outside the bottom three.

Leeds’ current conversion rate is their worst since 2013/14

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has had a difficult start at Leeds since he arrived as a free agent in the summer, and he isn’t getting much support from the rest of the attacking contingent in LS11 at the moment.

The striker trio of Calvert-Lewin, Joel Piroe and Lukas Nmecha have just two league goals between them so far this term, and one of them came from the penalty spot in the opening game.

However, it is not as though the Whites haven’t created enough clear-cut opportunities to have secured plenty more points so far.

Farke’s men have already fashioned 17 big chances in 2025-26, but 14 of those opportunities have been spurned, with the level of finishing within the team already emerging as a major concern.

Leeds’ conversion rate in front of goal stands at a staggeringly low 6.7 per cent at the moment, which is their lowest figure on record since the 2013-14 campaign, according to BBC Sport.

The Whites finished a lowly 15th in the Championship that season, with controversial businessman Massimo Cellino also completing his takeover of the club during that campaign.

If Farke and his men cannot find a way of turning that current figure around within the next few months, then it will surely consign them to an immediate return to the second tier.

Leeds can end four-game West Ham hoodoo with finishing improvement

Leeds face a huge game against West Ham on Friday night, as they go toe to toe with one of their likely relegation rivals at Elland Road.

Farke’s side would normally fancy their chances on home turf, but they have a woeful recent record when welcoming the Hammers to West Yorkshire, as they have failed to beat them in their last four home encounters with them.

Their ability to finish their chances will hold the key to them halting that run, given their visitors’ fortunes of late.

The East Londoners find themselves in a mess at the moment, and they were dominated by a Brentford side who missed four big chances themselves on Monday night, and still ran out 2-0 winners.

Finishing hasn’t been Leeds’ forte by any means since their promotion, but it will be crucial to their efforts on Friday night, and to their season as a whole.
