Leeds United will stay in the Premier League if Daniel Farke can continue this eye-catching stat

Leeds United look set to face a long, hard slog in order to preserve their Premier League status.

The Whites find themselves with a crucial four-point buffer between themselves and the relegation zone seven games into the campaign, but they have already had several reminders of the harsh reality of the top flight.

Leeds arguably got the better of the contest against Tottenham at the weekend, but were made to pay as the visitors’ superior individual quality provided the difference between the two teams.

However, there are plenty of positives for Daniel Farke to take so far, and his side will surely remain above the dreaded dotted line if they can sustain this impressive statistic.

Leeds rank fifth in the Premier League xG table

Leeds face an uphill battle to stay in the Premier League, but everybody connected to the club was well aware of that when their promotion from the Championship was sealed.

The top table of English football becomes harder to survive in with every passing season for the newly-promoted sides, but the West Yorkshire outfit have shown signs of promise during their early outings.

Two of their three defeats have come by a single goal, with the only exception being the 5-0 demolition at Arsenal, who will do that to several teams across the campaign.

Farke’s men have shown that they are capable of competing against the majority of sides in the division, especially at Elland Road, and the German will have been given even more hope by this eye-catching stat.

Leeds are currently sat 15th as we head into the international break, but they would sit fifth in the table if games were decided by xG, according to Squawka via their X account.

This highlights that the Whites are giving just as much as they are getting in the top flight so far, and if they can continue that level of competitiveness throughout the campaign, then they will surely beat the drop.

By comparison, their fellow newly-promoted sides Sunderland and Burnley lie 13th and 20th respectively, in what appears to be a much more gloomy picture.

Farke’s men must improve in both boxes to turn xG into points

Leeds have been limiting their opponents’ clear-cut chances effectively so far this season, but an improvement in both boxes is what will be crucial to their survival effort.

The xG table is certainly a promising sign for them, as it shows that they are capable of going toe to toe with most sides in the league.

However, it will be useless to them unless their promising signs are converted into points.

The Whites are competing well between both boxes, but they need to show an increased desire to put the ball in the back of the net and keep it out at the other end.

Sunderland are the prime example of that, as they have been able to outperform their expected position significantly so far by ensuring that they come out on top in the key moments of games.

Nevertheless, Leeds have clearly shown that they are capable of competing in the Premier League, and they will stay there if they can add a little more threat in front of goal.
