Leeds United: Wilfried Gnonto now undroppable at Elland Road as 100% stat emerges

Leeds United climbed to the top of the Championship for the first time this season with a 2-0 win over Millwall at the weekend.

The Whites got the job done at Elland Road on Sunday (17 March) thanks to goals from Willy Gnonto and Daniel James.

Both players took their chances well against rivals Millwall as they registered their seventh and 12th league goals of the season respectively.

Indeed, Leeds continue to boast a perfect record in all seventh games Gnonto has scored in, and all 11 James has netted in [Jonny Cooper].

Leeds United top scorers 2023-24

Gnonto is registering 0.21 goals per shot on target, as per FBref, which is the best return of any Leeds United attacker.

James is joint-second on that list with 0.16, level with Patrick Bamford, if you do not include the 0.20 registered by Luis Sinisterra.

The Welshman’s 12 goals have come from an expected goals (xG) value of 9.4, meanwhile, showing he is scoring at a higher rate than expected.

Gnonto’s xG is 4.2, giving him a positive differential of 2.8, which is the best return of any Leeds player. Next on that list? James with +2.6.

Overall, James is second only to Crysencio Summerville (13) in terms of United’s top scorers this term, with Gnonto joint-fourth on that list behind Joel Piroe (11).

All this goes to show that the two attackers, while they have not always been nailed-on starters, are proving vital in this promotion push.

Daniel Farke therefore needs to continue selecting his lucky omens in the hope that this 100-per-cent streak continues.

In other Leeds United news, a decision made by Farke is now massively paying off following the emergence of another key stat.
