Leeds United: Daniel Farke has easy decision to make on Dan James v Coventry City
Dan James put his Wales penalty heartbreak behind him this week when scoring a long-range goal in the 3-1 win over Hull City.
The 26-year-old found the net from all of 45 yards out to seal the victory for Leeds at Elland Road on Monday (1 April).
That was James’ 13th Championship goal of 2023-24 in what has been his best goalscoring campaign to date by quite some distance.
Incredibly, as per Opta’s Jonny Cooper via X, United have won all 12 matches in which the Welshman has found the net this season.
That is the most goals score by a Leeds player while winning every single game since Mick Jones in 1968-69 when winning 18 out of 18.
Leeds went on to land their first top-flight title that campaign. While they may now be in the second tier, the title is very much within reach now.
Leeds United player goal involvements 2023-24
On the basis of this statistic, and James’ general play when called upon, Daniel Farke will surely call upon his lucky omen again this weekend.
James won 100 per cent of his aerial duels against Hull, while also winning four of his seven duels overall [Sofascore].
The winger is in the side for this creative threat rather than defensive work, of course, and he is more than playing his part in that regard.
Indeed, only Georginio Rutter (22) and Crysencio Summerville (25) have more direct goal involvements for Leeds this season.
Farke has many options if he wishes to rotate against Coventry City, but James has to be one of the first names on the team sheet right now.
In other Leeds United news, Elland Road is set to be rocking on Thursday evening (4 April).
