Leeds United need more from James Justin as passing weaknesses exposed
Leeds United are likely to turn to James Justin against Brentford, and they need to see much more from him.
The Bees make the trip to Elland Road on Saturday night, with Gabriel Gudmundsson set to be Leeds’ only absentee from the clash.
His questionable sending off against Crystal Palace means he will serve a one-match ban, and Justin remains the most likely player to replace him in the starting 11.
Justin has been a regular starter under Daniel Farke for the most part of 2026, having given a good example of himself more often than not.
However, with Leeds at risk of relegation, and Justin likely to be called up again, they need to see much more from him when he does get on the ball.

James Justin’s ability on the ball could restrict Leeds vs Brentford
Gudmundsson has been one of the best left-backs in the Premier League this season, and a big reason behind that is his ability to contribute at both ends of the pitch.
While he may only have one assist, the Swede has been a constant threat down the left flank, which will be the responsibility of Justin if he is to be the one who replaces him on Saturday.
| Premier League | Gudmundsson |

Defensively, Leeds should have no concern. Justin has shown time and time again that he has what it takes in that area of his game, but whether he can have the same impact going forward seems unlikely.
His 76.5 per cent pass accuracy places him in the bottom 2.2 per cent of Premier League defenders, while his 16.7 per cent dribble success rate also places him among the bottom 18.7 per cent.
In comparison, Gudmundsson is among the top 26.6 per cent of players for his completed dribbles in the Premier League this season.
Does Daniel Farke have any other options?
Ultimately, no.
The German has, at times, utilised the likes of Willy Gnonto and Dan James in the wing-back positions, but against a side like Brentford, that is unlikely to work.
Brentford pose a significant threat on the wings, meaning Leeds will need to have plenty of defensive competence in those areas to contend with it.
Justin will provide that, but he needs to show more on the ball.
