Leeds United madness vs Liverpool reaches record levels not seen in over 35 years
Leeds went into the break goalless against Liverpool on Saturday, but the second half produced history that the Whites haven’t seen in decades.
Daniel Farke will have been delighted after Leeds’ 3-3 draw with Liverpool at Elland Road, in another game which showed the Whites are capable of staying in the Premier League.
Leeds are doing their best to stay up, and Farke knows the pressure he is under to get results in LS11.
At first, it seemed like a match that would be decided by a single goal, but after Hugo Ekitike scored the opener, the floodgates soon opened.
Ao Tanaka’s late strike ensured that Leeds took a point from the defending champions, and has created more uncertainty surrounding Arne Slot’s future at the Reds.
A simply staggering stat has now emerged following the conclusion of the action-packed showdown.

Leeds reach feat only seen once before in Liverpool game
Farke has surely boosted the chances of keeping his job after taking an impressive four points from both Chelsea and Liverpool.
The German head coach could have even been sacked if the Whites had lost to Liverpool, which at one point looked very likely.
However, the 49-year-old’s changes while 2-0 down proved to be a masterstroke.
- Leeds were trailing 2-0 after 70 minutes
- Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Anton Stach’s goals came within two minutes of each other
- Tanaka’s goal in the 96th minute became the latest ever equaliser scored by Leeds in the top flight
Before Leeds‘ match against Liverpool, the last time that the Whites drew a game 3-3 after it being 0-0 at halftime was back in October 1989.
This is when Leeds drew 3-3 with Portsmouth at Elland Road, in the same season that the Whites achieved promotion under Howard Wilkinson.

It’s no surprise that it’s been over three decades since this was last done by Leeds, and if anything, it highlights the madness that’s yet to come this campaign.
Leeds showed their mettle vs Liverpool, much more is to come
Much has been said about Farke and his tactics in the Premier League this season, but it’s fair to say that the head coach is showing his adaptability.
If the Whites are to avoid relegation, then they can’t afford to play possession-based football, and Farke looks to have finally addressed this in recent matches.
| Match | Date |
| Brentford vs Leeds | 14 December |
| Leeds vs Crystal Palace | 20 December |
| Sunderland vs Leeds | 28 December |
The main takeaway from the game was that Leeds showed their heart, and even when it looked like all was lost, they still managed to take a point.
The players are fighting for Farke, and all the fans can ask for is that they give 100 per cent every match, with more winnable games around the corner.
