Leeds United could inflict humiliating 131-year Football League record on Burnley in Turf Moor clash

Leeds are set to face Burnley on Saturday in an important early clash in the race for Premier League survival.

Both sides will go into the match out of form after a series of disappointing results.

Daniel Farke’s side were beaten 2-1 against Tottenham last time out, putting them just four points above the Clarets, who remain in the relegation zone.

Nonetheless, Burnley are the favourites for the Turf Moor clash, despite many of the travelling fans expecting a result for Leeds.

However, the West Yorkshire side do not even need to inflict a defeat on the Clarets to see them match a humiliating record.

One Leeds goal vs Burnley would match feat last seen in the 1894-95 campaign

While Farke does not have the best record against Burnley or Scott Parker, a good performance will still be expected on Saturday.

Leeds’ 3-1 victory over Wolves last month proved that they can go to away grounds and pick up a result.

However, with Burnley having a solid record at home, it could prove to be a tricky task, especially to break them down.

Yet, if Leeds just net once against the Clarets, it would subject them to a humiliating feat.

According to BBC Sport on 15 October, if Burnley concede just once on Saturday, it will be the first time since the 1894-95 season in the Football League that a team has let in their previous season’s tally within their first eight games of a campaign.

So far, the Clarets have conceded 15 goals within their first seven matches, yet, only let in 16 throughout their entire Championship campaign last season.

Therefore, if Leeds do score on Saturday, Burnley will be the first side since Liverpool to endure this terrible record.

Leeds will struggle to break down Burnley at Turf Moor

As bad as Burnley’s defence has been this season, 12 of the 15 goals they have conceded have come away from home.

At Turf Moor, they have been defensively formidable and kept a clean sheet against Sunderland earlier this campaign.

Therefore, with stars like Dominic Calvert-Lewin underperforming for Leeds in attack to date, it could prove to be a tough day for Farke’s side.

Hopefully, the German has a strategy in place to be able to break down their stubborn backline.
