Leeds United smash 100+ year EFL record in victory over Plymouth Argyle at Home Park
Leeds United continued their pursuit of automatic promotion to the Premier League with a 2-0 win over Plymouth Argyle.
Wilfried Gnonto and Georginio Rutter scored either side of half-time to make it eight Championship victories in a row for the Whites.
Taking all competitions into account, meanwhile, United have won 10 and drawn one of their 11 matches this calendar year.
As per Opta’s Jonny Cooper via Twitter [17 February], that is the earliest into a calendar year Leeds have ever registered 10 wins.
The previous quickest time Leeds United had reached that double-figure mark was on 9 March in 1968 – some 56 years ago.
Indeed, it is the earliest into a year any second tier side has ever won 10 games in English Football League history, dating back more than a century.
Archie Gray proving Leeds United’s lucky omen
Following Saturday’s (17 February) win at Home Park, Archie Gray and Glen Kamara have ended on the winning side in 10 successive games.

Only 11 previous Leeds players have managed that, and none at all have done so since Andy Hughes between April and September 2009.
Kamara again impressed against Plymouth with a passing accuracy of 90.4 per cent, while Gray – a midfielder by trade – led the way for tackles (four) and interceptions (three) [WhoScored].
In this type of form, you can expect the records to keep on tumbling as Leeds seek an instant return to the top flight.
