Leeds United 90 minutes away from achieving unwanted first as Brighton test awaits

Leeds United blew some life back into their Premier League campaign with victory over West Ham United last week.

After a run of three games without a win, which saw Daniel Farke come under pressure at Leeds, the Whites saw off a poor West Ham side at Elland Road.

Leeds’ 2-1 win over West Ham leaves them six points above the relegation zone with nine matches now played.

Leeds now face a trip to Brighton on Saturday as they aim to register back-to-back victories in the top flight for the first time this season.

However, Leeds‘ record at The Amex makes for truly terrible reading, and they could be on the verge of setting an unwanted record against an individual opponent.

Leeds goalless in seven visits to Brighton

First and foremost, Leeds have failed to win on any of their last nine trips to Brighton in the league since a 3-0 victory in November 2009.

Indeed, the Amex Stadium is the ground Leeds have played the most times at in their history in all competitions (nine) without winning.

Not only that, Leeds have failed to score on any of their past seven league trips to Brighton, with that the Seagulls’ best-ever record against an opponent.

For Leeds, it is the joint-worst scoreless run they have recorded against a side, level with Liverpool (seven games between March 1980 and August 1993).

That means Leeds could set a new outright unwanted club record of eight away league games against an opponent without scoring if they fire another blank after 90 minutes this weekend.

However, based on Brighton’s recent results, Leeds have as good a chance as any of putting an end to that barren run on Saturday.

Brighton have poor defensive record at Amex Stadium

Farke will already be happy at a Premier League announcement made ahead of the match, as Michael Oliver has been appointed referee on the South Coast.

What will please Farke even more is Brighton’s pretty dreadful defensive record at the Amex Stadium, having kept just one clean sheets in their past 21 league games there.

In fact, Brighton have kept a clean sheet in only eight of their 47 league games under boss Fabian Hurzeler.

The Seagulls are there to be got at, then, and there is no reason why Leeds’ attackers cannot find the back of the net at least once.

A point away from home would be considered a positive result for Farke‘s side, and given they are unlikely to keep a clean sheet themselves, scoring at least once will be the key to picking up a point or more.
