Leeds and Aston Villa top unwanted Premier League chart ahead of Elland Road showdown

Leeds United’s Premier League clash against Aston Villa on Sunday signals a meeting between two sides who have had trouble in front of goal.

Daniel Farke is currently at odds over Leeds’ season so far, as the team continues to create gilt-edged chances, but are failing to put them in the back of the net.

Farke is under increasing scrutiny, and worries over the lack of attacking reinforcements in the summer have been brutally exposed many times this season, as they sit just one point above the drop zone in 16th place.

Leeds and Aston Villa incredibly wasteful in the Premier League

Elland Road needs to be a fortress this season, and the points total of 11 could be drastically higher if they were clinical in front of goal.

Leeds currently possess the second-worst attack in the top flight, with their total of 10 goals only better than Wolves’ tally of seven.

Aston Villa (20 per cent – scored 3/15) and Leeds (22.7 per cent – 5/22) are the two lowest-ranked sides for big-chance conversion in the Premier League so far this season.

Leeds’ strikers this season

It’s clear that the Peacocks must invest in January, and the signing of a winger and an out-and-out striker who can be counted on is an absolute necessity.

Leeds are linked with a move for Raheem Sterling, and despite the fact he has been exiled from the squad at Chelsea, his goalscoring pedigree could be hugely beneficial in the relegation battle.

However, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin struggling up front, the potential signing of Sterling is clearly not enough if Leeds want to fix their issues.

Lukas Nmecha’s brilliant goal against Nottingham Forest has shown that he has the potential to fire in the goals for Leeds, but there are question marks over his fitness.

Leeds’ striker woes are being brutally exposed

Calvert-Lewin’s Premier League experience is incredibly valuable; however, Nmecha may have taken his place up front.

Joel Piroe was excellent for the Peacocks in the Championship, scoring 16 goals to help Leeds lift the title in 2024-25, but Farke clearly doesn’t have any faith in him to lead the line.

With the away form becoming a huge problem in the top flight, there is no reason to suggest that the Peacocks can turn their goalscoring woes around ahead of a tough run of games.

Villa are on an impressive run of form despite their conversion issues, and they will still pose a huge threat to this underperforming Leeds side.
